Frequently asked questions
What is a Compilation Report?
- A Compilation Report — previously called a Notice to Reader — presents financial information you supply, assembled into statement form by a professional accountant. It is not an audit or a review, so it carries no assurance opinion. It is often what a bank or a lender asks for from a small owner-managed corporation.
Do I need to incorporate, or can I stay a sole proprietor?
- It depends on your income level, your risk exposure, whether you need to retain earnings in the business, and your plans for growth. Incorporating adds filing obligations and cost, and it is not automatically advantageous. This is exactly the kind of question our advisory work is meant to answer for your situation rather than in general.
Can you help set up a brand new corporation with the CRA?
- Yes. Registering new corporations with the CRA and setting up the associated business accounts — GST/HST, payroll and so on — is part of our New Corporation Services.
How often should I be looking at reports on my business?
- Most owner-managed businesses benefit from reviewing performance monthly or quarterly rather than only at year end, because by year end the decisions have already been made. We build reporting systems around a cadence that fits how you actually run the business.
